More War

With another kidnapping/murder attack by Muslims, Israel has tired of the attacks and has decided to fight a kind of two front war in Gaza and Lebanon. They’ve bombed infrastructure and closed air and sea routes. It’s unclear at this stage how far Israel will go. Syria the effective controllers of Lebanon may also be targeted.

One military blogger has even gone so far as to suggest WWIII is possible.

Lebanese bloggers show what a nightmare it is for them and that their country is overrun by the fanatics.

H/t: Blackfive

The UN has unsurprisingly petitioned to condemn the kidnapping/murder and Israel’s “disproportionate use of force” and the US has vetoed that.

For what it’s worth I side more on the Israelis on this one but frankly I don’t have much hope for their actions helping the situation. It underlines once again that there is no real peace process in the region and that UN and US diplomatic intervention is meaningless.

Edit: Now i know what H/t is let's use it.

You want me to figure out a way which has stumped people for centuries?

Frankly no proposal is going to be terribly palatable or it would have been done by now.

I haven't given a real solution that much thought only nebulous ideas and I'm not in the know at enough depth for the region.

I suspect one place to look is UK/Ireland.

What was the outside power that occupied NI?

In my view, nobody is going occupy the region to bring peace. The most powerful nation on earth, the one you live in, could not even successfully do it.

Mr Holmes is too romantic and oversimplified in this quote. 2 types of people? Assuming they care about the issue? Assuming what they say and think.

I do comment on the conflict as an interested citizen but I hardly pretend to have all the answers.

Why not you ask

The short answer is because it's not a battle I choose to fight.

The longer answer is in my life I have plenty of fights to fight as we all do. We cherry pick what we will fight and what we won't. That which we don't fight is a burden for others. The reality is we don't have the time and energy to fight every worthwhile battle.

In this conflict I am at a serious disadvantage. As I said I’m not in the know. Nor do I have or am likely to be able to get any influence in the area.

I pick my fights and while I view this one as important it’s not one I will solve.

I thought the brits were like Israel in that conflict. One of the involved and not an outside force.
